Let’s go back to basics. A lunar cycle lasts about 28 days. During this period, a star appears to disappear from the sky and then grows, taking the form of a quarter, a crescent, and finally a full moon. It is at this point that the full moon appears, about two weeks after the start of the lunar cycle. To know when this special event occurs, it’s best to consult a lunar calendar. These are usually marked with a white circle. Once this lunar phase is over, the moon gradually wanes and disappears again. This signals the end of the lunar cycle and the beginning of a new one.

How long does a full moon last?
If the full moon has a specific date and time, its influence is said to extend for several days. Therefore, we feel its effects two or three days before and two or three days after. If, astronomically speaking, the full moon simply indicates the moment when a star is fully illuminated by the Sun (hence its round, full shape), then, for witches and astrology enthusiasts, this lunar phase is the time when we feel the moon’s power most intensely. Therefore, rituals and ceremonies are performed on full moon nights. The full moon is a magical night, a time when lunar energy reaches its peak. During this lunar phase, everything becomes clearer, more accessible, more intense, more dazzling. According to some beliefs, during the full moon, the veil that separates our world (the tangible) from the invisible world thins and disappears. Thus, cosmic energies intensify. We allow everyone to practice magic. For witches, the full moon is an opportunity to celebrate life. And since the moon is the star that governs our emotions, our sensitivity is heightened. Amidst all that is brightest, the full moon is a moment of forgiveness. It is the moment when we free ourselves from negative energies and everything we no longer wish to carry with us.
