An hour later, the port’s CCTV footage confirmed what I already suspected: Daniel, Rachel, and Ethan boarded the boat together. Olivia never did.
Instead, she had been left at a hotel shuttle stop with a backpack and the promise that “someone would come back for her once the check-in issues were sorted out.”
That “someone” never came.
Detective Inspector Harris stood beside me at the hospital as I watched Olivia sleep.
“Do you want to press charges?” he asked cautiously.
I didn’t answer right away. I looked at her small hand, the IV tape slightly twisted, as if she had tried to rip it off earlier.
“She could have died,” I said softly.
“That’s not an answer,” he replied.
“That’s the case,” I said.
